Advanced Foot Cushioning: Dermal Filler Treatment

At Biped Podiatry, we are at the forefront of offering innovative solutions for complex and chronic foot pain. One of the most advanced treatments we provide is the use of injectable dermal fillers to restore cushioning to high-pressure areas of the feet. This procedure, known as foot augmentation, uses hyaluronic acid-based fillers to provide immediate, lasting relief where natural padding has been lost.

The Problem: Fat Pad Atrophy

On the ball of your foot and under the heel, you have crucial structures called fibro-fatty pads. Think of these as natural, shock-absorbing cushions that protect your bones, joints, and nerves from the immense pressures of walking and standing.

Over time, due to ageing, repetitive stress, high-impact activities, or certain medical conditions, these essential fat pads can thin and shrink. This process is called fat pad atrophy. The loss of this natural cushioning can lead to:

  • Excruciating pain in the ball of the foot (metatarsalgia).

  • Feeling like you are "walking on stones" or directly on the bone.

  • The development of painful, persistent calluses and corns over bony prominences.

  • Increased risk of stress fractures and joint inflammation.

How Dermal Fillers Provide Instant Relief

Dermal fillers offer a revolutionary, non-surgical solution. We use a specialised, thick (high-viscosity) dermal filler made from Hyaluronic Acid (HA). HA is a substance that occurs naturally in the body, known for its ability to attract water and add volume.

The procedure involves carefully and precisely injecting this smooth gel filler directly into the areas where the natural padding has been lost. The filler acts as an "internal cushion," immediately replacing the lost volume. This works to:

  1. Restore Shock Absorption: The injected HA gel acts as a substitute for the diminished fat pad, cushioning the bones and joints with every step.

  2. Redistribute Pressure: By adding volume, the filler helps to spread weight-bearing pressure more evenly across the foot, alleviating painful pressure points.

  3. Reduce Pain & Corn Formation: With the underlying bony pressure relieved, the stimulus for the formation of deep, painful corns and calluses is significantly reduced or eliminated.

The effects are immediate and can provide significant pain relief that lasts from 6 to 12 months, or sometimes longer.

Your Dermal Filler Procedure: What to Expect

Patient safety and comfort are our highest priorities. The procedure is performed in our sterile clinical environment at our Guisborough clinic.

  1. Consultation & Assessment: We begin with a thorough assessment to confirm that you are a suitable candidate for the treatment.

  2. Numbing: The treatment area is completely numbed using a local anaesthetic injection to ensure the procedure is entirely pain-free.

  3. The Injection: Using sterile techniques, your specialist podiatrist will carefully inject the dermal filler into the precise anatomical locations requiring support.

  4. Aftercare: You will be given detailed aftercare advice. We recommend a period of reduced activity for 24-48 hours and will schedule a follow-up review appointment for two weeks later to assess the results.

Pricing for Podiatric Dermal Filler Treatment

This is a highly specialised procedure that requires significant expertise and uses premium, medical-grade products. Our pricing is transparent and reflects the all-inclusive nature of this advanced service.

  • Initial Consultation, Assessment & Treatment (1 Syringe): £350

    • This all-inclusive fee covers your initial suitability assessment, the local anaesthetic, the sterile procedure, a 1ml syringe of specialised dermal filler, and your two-week review appointment. This is typically sufficient for treating a single focal area (e.g., under a painful metatarsal head).

  • Additional Syringes (if required on the same day): £200 per syringe

    • For more extensive volume loss across the ball of the foot, additional syringes may be required to achieve the optimal cushioning effect.

If you are tired of living with the feeling of walking on pebbles and conservative treatments have failed, dermal filler augmentation may be the transformative solution you need.
