Injection Therapy at Biped Podiatry

At Biped Podiatry, we are committed to providing advanced, evidence-based treatments to alleviate your foot and ankle pain and improve your mobility. Our specialist podiatrists offer state-of-the-art injection therapies, often using ultrasound guidance to ensure maximum precision, safety, and effectiveness.

Hyaluronic Acid Injections (Ostenil® Plus)

Ostenil® Plus is a highly effective treatment for managing pain and stiffness associated with osteoarthritis in joints such as the ankle, midfoot, or big toe joint.

  • What is it? Ostenil® Plus is an injection containing a high concentration of Hyaluronic Acid (HA). HA is a natural substance found in the synovial fluid of healthy joints, where it acts as a lubricant and a shock absorber. In osteoarthritic joints, the concentration and quality of HA are often reduced.

  • How does it work? By injecting Ostenil® Plus directly into the affected joint, we replenish the joint's natural HA. This helps to:

    • Restore normal lubrication and shock absorption.

    • Reduce pain and stiffness.

    • Improve overall joint function.

    • Decrease inflammation.

  • The Biped Podiatry Approach: We use ultrasound guidance to precisely deliver the injection into the joint capsule, ensuring the treatment is targeted for the best possible outcome. The effects can last for several months, providing significant, long-lasting relief and helping you return to your daily activities more comfortably. 👟

Corticosteroid Injections

Corticosteroid injections, often simply called "steroid injections," are a powerful tool for rapidly reducing localised inflammation and pain in various foot and ankle conditions.

  • What is it? Corticosteroids are potent anti-inflammatory medications that mimic the effects of cortisol, a hormone naturally produced by your body. When injected directly into an inflamed area, they provide targeted and powerful relief.

  • How does it work? The injection delivers the corticosteroid medication precisely to the source of inflammation. This interrupts the inflammatory cascade, leading to a significant and often rapid reduction in pain, swelling, and irritation. This allows the tissue to begin healing and enables you to engage more effectively with other therapies like physiotherapy or orthotics.

  • Conditions Treated: We commonly use steroid injections to treat conditions such as:

    • Plantar Fasciitis (heel pain)

    • Morton's Neuroma

    • Bursitis

    • Tendonitis (e.g., Achilles tendonitis)

    • Arthritis in specific joints

  • The Gold Standard: Ultrasound Guidance: At Biped Podiatry, we perform all our corticosteroid injections under high-resolution ultrasound guidance. This is crucial. It allows us to visualise the needle in real-time and ensure the medication is delivered to the exact location of the inflammation, avoiding sensitive structures like nerves and blood vessels. This technique significantly improves the injection's effectiveness and safety, leading to better clinical outcomes for our patients.

How much does it cost?

For a single Ostenil or steroid injection to a joint using Ultrasound Guidance , we charge £250 including the consultation price. If two joints are required to be injected, we charge £480.00.

Which clinics do we do we offer procedures at?

We are able to perform Ostenil Plus Ultrasound Guided Injections at our Guisborough Clinic.
