Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between a chiropodist and a podiatrist?

None, really. In the UK, podiatry is the newer name for chiropody and the two words mean the same thing. "Podiatrist" is the name used internationally.

Can anyone call themselves a podiatrist?

No. "Podiatrist" and "chiropodist" are protected titles. To use them, a practitioner must be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), the UK regulator. All our podiatrists are HCPC-registered, and you can check anyone's registration on the HCPC website (hcpc-uk.org).

What is a Foot Health Practitioner?

"Foot Health Practitioner" is not a protected title, so training can vary a lot. If you're unsure who you're seeing, it's fine to ask whether they're HCPC-registered and what qualifications they hold.

Do I need a referral from my GP?

No. You can book a private appointment with us directly. If your GP needs to be involved in your care, we'll contact them after your first assessment. We also accept referrals.

How do I book?

Book online at bipedpodiatry.cliniko.com/bookings or call 01642 937295. Both clinics are open by appointment only, so please book before you visit.

Who answers the phone?

Your call may be answered by Halo, our AI receptionist provided by CPhone. Halo can help with bookings and general questions, and will pass on anything it can't help with to our team.

How much does it cost?

Our fees (April 2025) are: new patient assessment and treatment £60; routine treatment £45; nail surgery from £400; biomechanical assessment £100 (£300 with gait analysis); orthotics from £60; laser therapy £75. Other treatments are priced on request. See our Prices page for details.

Do you still offer a nail-cutting-only appointment?

No. We no longer offer a simple nail cut or minor treatment appointment. These are now booked as a routine treatment at £45.

What happens at my first appointment?

Your podiatrist will ask about your health, medicines and foot concerns, examine your feet and talk you through the options before any treatment. Please bring a list of any medicines you take. With your agreement, we may write to your GP to let them know you're registered with us and share brief details of your treatment plan.

I have diabetes. Can you check my feet?

Yes. We're happy to carry out a diabetic foot assessment as part of any treatment. Please mention it when you book.

Do you offer home visits?

Home visits are available by appointment only, subject to Vicky's availability. They can't be booked online, so please call 01642 937295 to ask.

Or call 01642 937295. Appointments at our Redcar and Guisborough clinics.
