Injection therapy

Joint and soft-tissue injections for some painful foot and ankle conditions, after a full assessment.

What it is

Injection therapy delivers medication directly to a painful joint or soft tissue. We offer corticosteroid (steroid) injections, which may reduce inflammation and pain in conditions such as plantar fasciitis, Morton's neuroma, bursitis and arthritic joints. We also offer hyaluronic acid injections, which may help with pain and stiffness from osteoarthritis in joints such as the big toe or ankle. Where helpful, injections can be guided by ultrasound imaging so the needle is placed accurately. Andy has completed CPD training in steroid injection and point-of-care ultrasound. Injections aren't suitable for everyone, and the effects vary and may be temporary.

What to expect

We start with an assessment and medical history to check that an injection is right for you and that other options have been considered. We'll explain the possible benefits, risks and side effects, and ask for your consent. The area is cleaned and the injection given, sometimes with local anaesthetic. Afterwards, you'll get aftercare advice. We'll usually suggest taking it easy for a day or two and arrange a review.
