Diabetic foot care
Foot checks, routine care and advice for people with diabetes.
What it is
Diabetes can reduce the feeling in your feet (neuropathy) and the blood supply to them (ischaemia). That means an injury may go unnoticed and heal more slowly. Regular checks by an HCPC-registered podiatrist, alongside good blood sugar control, not smoking and daily foot checks at home, can help reduce the risk of problems.
What to expect
We can carry out a diabetic foot assessment as part of any appointment. Just mention it when you book. We'll check the sensation and circulation in your feet, look at your skin and nails, and treat any corns, callus or nail problems. You'll get advice on daily foot care, socks and footwear. If you notice a cut, blister, swelling or colour change you're worried about, contact us or your GP or diabetes team straight away. Don't try to treat it yourself.
