Orthotics

Insoles prescribed after an assessment, which may help support your feet and ease strain on painful areas.

What it is

Orthotics are insoles or shoe inserts that support the foot and change how it moves and takes load. Off-the-shelf insoles come as a matching pair, but your two feet often aren't the same. Prescription orthotics can be made for each foot separately. Depending on your assessment, orthotics may help with problems such as heel pain (plantar fasciitis), arch pain, metatarsalgia, Morton's neuroma, shin pain and some knee or hip pain. They are usually one part of a wider plan.

What to expect

Orthotics are prescribed after a biomechanical assessment, so we know what your feet need. We'll talk you through the options, from adapted ready-made insoles to custom-made devices, and how they'll fit your footwear. When they're ready, we'll fit them, explain how to break them in gradually, and review how you're getting on.
